It is known that marbling (Ebru) originated around Khorasan in Central Asia and reached Anatolia through migrations. Especially during the Ottoman period, Turkish calligraphy masters and artists created new forms and developed their techniques. However, for many years, Ebru was used as a secondary art in materials like books, plaques, and cases, serving as background art in calligraphy. It waited for centuries to be recognized as an art form on its own. Like everything in life, the art of Ebru has adapted to changes and developments, earning a rightful place in everyday life. Gaining a new dimension within the art movements of our era, Ebru is now present in many fields.

Especially different geographies, cultures, and individuals contribute to the development of Ebru with their experiences. Ebru is an unparalleled work created by the merging of the artist’s emotions with water, which represents the source of life (âb-ı hayat), and the paints, which represent the dance of colors. It is impossible to reproduce it in the same way a second time. Ultimately, through the techniques used, the artist’s deepest feelings, thoughts, and creativity come to the forefront. The characteristic features of Ebru allow for artistic flexibility in the chosen technique. In other words, each tiny drop of paint offers the artist many options, making it possible to create a masterpiece.
